So me having one of my random thoughts the other day started to wonder.... How much can you stroke a 6.1L engine? Now, this is a purely theoretical question...I'm not asking to do it...just wondering for my own info purposes... so your taking the 370ci (that's the 6.1 right? lol) and stroking it out to a max of ____ci.... now the thing about this question is not "whats the biggest package out there"...its...what is the theoretical max ci that you can get out of the stock block Hopefully this makes any sense to people lol.
I believe you can sleave a 6.1 block and go 440. I think the sleave kit alone starts at $3800. Haven't seen or heard of one going yet, but will try an find the article.
There a couple of vendors that have been trying to get a 440 going. Haven't heard the progress in a month or so, so I am not sure how the cylinder sleeves are holding up?
you can build a 440 without sleeves with a 4.080" bore. Its all in the stroke and not very favorable in the rod/stroke ratio area. Also, the sleeves are not the best idea since they are a wet design and the block gets extremely thin. I would stick with the 4.080 stroke and be happy with the 418-426 cubes.
Personally, I wouldn't go bigger than a 426 with out current blocks. Anything over that and you're risking too thin of a cylinder wall. Now, the aluminum 6.1 block that is coming out from Mopar Performance will be able to be safely bored to make a 440.
I think his main question was how far you can stroke (piston distance of travel) the block without changing the bore (cylinder diameter)? I know 392 is there....... any more stroke left?
