I'm gonna be shipping my OEM wheels in the next week or so... what's the best packaging to ship them in, but is also cost-effective (without risking damage)?

Both bubble wrap and peanuts. If you can not afford the bubble wrap, Seran wrap the rims and use peanuts for the padding.

The best method is to take the rims to FedEx or UPS and let them package the rims. The labor is free, but you will have to pay for the materials.

when i got my new Cobra's for the mustang, they just came individually packaged in their own UPS/FEDEX box with that white foam stuff around the outsides and each of the spokes. I would imagine this would be the best way to go about it.

This allows for 4 smaller boxes instead of one really big expensive box. Also, if you try to shove em in one box theres a greater chance of damage

Thanks gents! I wonder how much the boxes are at a fedex/ups... bastards will likely charge $50 a box!

It's cheaper if you package two wheels at a time..I've read anyways. Check out the Weldcraft website for a good description...they ship and recieve wheels every day.

i've bought/sold/traded probably 20 sets of wheels during my pathetic life. boxes are overkill, all they do is make them harder to handle and piss off the delivery guy. bubble wrap the faces and then cover that with cardboard, then band that around the wheel. the tire is the best kind of packaging you can have anyways. if you do ship with boxes makesure the boxes aren't too big..

I have had a bunch of wheels shipped to me. Unless you have the box and the packaging materials that were meant for that exact wheel, I think that Marcus' method is the best by far. Thick cardboard on both sides of the wheel and then wrapped in that packaging wrap. Less weight, less bulk, easy to unpackage and probably less chance for damage because it is easier to handle. I have received many wheels in cardboad boxes where the box is just about falling apart when it arrives. If the wheel is not stable inside, there is a good chance that someone handling it will drop it.

Doesn't matter, still use that method. You will be happier and the recipient will be happier.
