I had a B&G generic PCM number which thw starscan wasn't having any luck changing so I sent it back to B&G to get set back to stock. In the letter I gave my Vin# and the latest version of the PCM # for my Vin# which was 05094680AK. This number was also labeled on the PCM

Whenitcame back the PCM number 05094779AH which is also a 06 LX PCM number.
B&G said it didn't matter cause it was still a 06 LX PCM number but I stopped at a dealer yesterday that took my Vin# and looked it up on the computer and it said I should have 05094680AK and it would have to be changed to that number.
I talked to another Chrysler tech today and he said that the StarScan cannot change a PCM number but can only update it to the latest version of what is already in the PCM and that the 05094779AH which I upgraded to AK with the Diablo today was now my new PCM software number

Can anyone shed any light on this funkyC or someone with a lot of StarScan knowledge

I don't think you're confusing the PCM# (physical part) with the version of the flash (software) that is currently loaded to it, are you?

When they come out with TSB fixes or whatever they might include software/firmware changes to the PCM code. It's like loading your PC with the latest version of the operating system. So I think you should be good to go now with AK which sounds like the latest. right? did that help?

Actually my original PCM software was 05094680AG and the latest upgrade for that would be 05094680AK
When I sent it to B&G last year it came back with A PCM software # 05030232AE and that was the software version that was on it till last week when I asked to be put back to the my stock PCM version that would have been 05094680AG but upgraded would have been AK and I got it back with PCM software version 05094779AH.
I know its a little confusing but it does not have the original software version for my Vin#

Yea, but it sounds like they just happened to have that revision laying around and slapped it on there. Just guessing.

B&G may not keep up on the latest versions unless it contains some changes they want or like that they don't overwrite with their own stuff. Revisions are more likely to have changes to constants rather than more major code or algorithm changes. Just guessing again.

Might have just been the stock version they had loaded up on the PCM burner at the moment?

It's likely B&G has some stock version they use to modify to produce the B&G tunes. They probably don't change that unless DCx comes out with something they could use or think is better (changes in the code that B&G doesn't modify). So when you originally sent in your PCM that had AG on it the current B&G tune was based on AE. Now maybe the B&G tunes are based on AH. When you asked for the stock load they just loaded up AH.

(sounds like a good opportunity for a pool with casino bucks. Everybody makes a guess for a wager, then ask Dave at B&G, and the closest guess gets the pot )

It wouldn't matter if it was the Prefix AH-AE-AK that was different cause the Diablo will just make them all AK but all the PCM software numbers are different.

What did B&G do? Was a different PCM sent back or flashed to a different VIN??

It was my original PCM I sent and got back every time but the software inside was a different version and talking with dynosteve he said I would need to get my PCM back to stock and I tried with the StarScan and it would not accept the upgrade to the PCM # for my vin, so I sent it to B&G to have it put back to stock along with my Vin# and the PCM# for that vin# and but didn't come back with the PCM number that goes with my Vin# and he said it was still a 06 LX PCM version so it wouldn't matter and after that I was told by one tech that I needed the PCM number that matched my Vin and another that says this number is my new number.
    So I am confused.
I was told today that the StarScan can only upgrade the version thats in the car and cannot change it to another software version

Maybe I can try to explain better it is confusing even to me

My original PCM software in my car was 05094680AG

When I go to the dealer and they type my Vin# into the StarScan Computer the update PCM software version is 05094680AK

When they hooked the starscan to my car it said my software version was
05030232AE and it would not accept the05094680AK that my Vin# called for

I sent it back to B&G to get it flashed back to original stock software version which would have been 05094680AG and it came back with software version 05094779AH

So the software version my Vin# calls for is 05094680AK but the software version that is in the car is 05094779AK. It is now AK cause I upgraded it with Diablo

Will this version work as my new PCM software and be recognized by all the other moduales that are looking for version 05094680AK.

    Ok, now I'm confused again...

You have your original, physical PCM so you have the original hardware right?
Since the one you started out with, there have been no physical upgrades to the PCM, right? -- (DCx has not made any upgrades that require a physically different PCM).

So that leaves only software. The flash/image for the PCM.

05094680AG -- original PCM software version (before being sent to B&G)
05094680AK -- PCM software version you would have now had you regularly had your PCM updated by the dealer.

05030232AE -- PCM software version of the B&G tune you got a year ago.
05094779AH -- PCM software version that B&G recently sent back as "stock".

05094779AK -- PCM software version you have now after upgrading it with the Predator.

I don't think you VIN# has much to do with it other than:
The VIN# will identify the engine option that came in the car.
Also the VIN# must be burned into the flash/image to match the car.

So the question is those pesky numbers in the version. What is their significance?
The 5.7s have to deal with CALIDs that I don't really understand. Do the numbers map to a CALID? Would it matter?
If you start with some version is there something like a "version train" that you follow from then on that is different from others?

Did that help clarify? or am I just making things worse?
I'd think Dave at B&G or DiabloSport could answer this question.

Well I found this much out and I remember Dave saying this also

05094680AK is described as AUTOMATIC RWD 50 STATE 142MPH
05094779AK is described as AUTOMATIC RWD 50 STATE CHARGER

not sure what the difference is between the two. perhaps 4680AK is only used with R/T option??

And the 05030232AE is a SRT8 software version, which at the time was a special tune B&G did for 5.7's with 6.1 injectors and it was a kick ass tune and took me right from the upper 12's to the lower 12's

I guess the only question is if it is true the StarScan cannot change me back to my original Software version 05094680AK

and will this version 05094779AK work as my new PCM software and be recognized by all the other moduales that are looking for version 05094680AK

    Heh, that's interesting.
The question would be which one is more restrictive?
I thought the Starscan was able to do/override just about anything having to do with flashing the PCM.
I'd expect either one to work just fine since they're probably for the exact same engine and only impose some restrictions based on car model.
