Folks, I've been doing some thinking (and swindling)... I may 'sneak' some coilovers. I can't stand it anymore. The blower, new wheels and tires... my baby can't look like a 4x4 or handle stock when I get her back... I've been fortunate enough to sell a couple things and have some moola to consider this mod.

I sent out a couple PMs/emails but haven't heard back YET from some vendors. What vendors offer the best deals on KW's?!?! Either V1 or V2... although, I'll likely have to go with the V1's for cost purposes.

    PM me if needed.

Hasn't Matt preached the goodness of his StreetRaceTech coilovers on this site? Is there any reason NOT to select these when choosing a set? Why are you going with KW Mother? And Mol... why Teins? Curious george here... :)

rant the ones from jmatt like twice the price? i know they are awsome, i used to run afcos on the rear of my drag car before i switched over to electric konis. i like the teins because you can adjust the dampining from inside the car.

LOL - the cheapest KW's are to buy the AFCO's first. That way you don't buy the KW's, throw them away, and THEN buy the AFCO's instead.

OK - just kidding. KW's are nice.

But remember, if you don't want damping control, we have the full AFCO package with fixed damping available for $1399. Still not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

I think that the AFCO's with damping control are definitely the way to go. If I had to do it again, that is what I would do. A little more money but a lot more functionality.

I and others have looked into these... but with the remote/interior EDC, they'll run more than the $1200 KW V1's go for.

You are wise beyond your years... plus, you read my original statement!

I'm aware that your setup is nice indeed, but I've seen sales on KW V1's for around $1100... $300 COULD mean Hotchkis sways too.

LMAO!!! Spoken like a true statesman.

Thanks man! I saw that price too... but they had a sale at one time for $100+ less... wonder if they'd be willing to 'sale price' some to me?!?!

My 'thing' is this: 'bang for the buck'. KW V1s are extremely well made and offer better handling, ride and lowering from stock... for AROUND $1100-1200.

Sure, the dampening adjustability isn't there, but I have to set realistic goals for myself so that my wife doesn't just threaten to kick me out.

Sure, a few hundred $$$ more doesn't sound like alot, but to some, including me, it can be and is at this point of my mod career.

If I were to think about dampening control, the V2's immediately come to mind... as I've driven a car with them (Rick).

I'm not THAT familiar with the Afcos compared to the KWs. The praises of KW are well known... I want/need the 'roadcourse' performance of what I've experienced with KWs... even when dampening was set in the midrange (what I believe the V1's are set at)... my impression of the Afco/Streetracetech coilovers was/is that they're for drag racing...

That perception is wrong, and that's my fault. I tune MINE for dragracing. The normal setup is for nice street performance use. I just bias mine way off center to use for drag racing.

The benefits of AFCO include being able to select whatever spring rate you want - soft, to holy crap firm, even on the less expensive fixed damping version.

And ride height is actually adjustable - easily. Rear ride height I've documented changing in about 4 minutes. I changed ride height on all four corners in 20 minutes once. Nothing else can do that. In addition, you can lower your car more than with KW, and you can actually raise it as well (some northern climate people want to raise their cars for snow clearance).

10-4 thanks! Yeah, I thought they were drag racing specific. How about materials? Are they stainless like the KW? I'm also concerned about longevity.

And considering I'm shopping for the best deals (like everyone else) what is the best price for your basic coilover (front and rear) setup?

Afco's are true aluminum racing shocks, which is a lot higher performance oriented than stainless would be.

Jason, don't know if you're still gonna get the KWs or not but that $1296 Stevo found is still too much, I got my Mopars for less than that and they're always more expensive! Try Ebay or other forums for a group buy. Too bad you missed out on Milans not long ago, that would have been good. Why didn't you get those anyway??

Yeah, I figured over $1200 was a bit much... as for Milan's, I didn't have the $$$ (which I kind of still don't - LOL). I tried ebay motors, but didn't find anything as of yesterday.

If you do ebay make sure they are for the charger...that would be a costly mistake haha

i checked their website for dealers in your area and there was one but it was $1,300 for them...however there would be no shipping so that might work out for you...i dont know what hte shipping costs on these things are

Jason, I think you'd go for the V1's regardless. They put a LOT of experience, testing, and feedback into the settings on the non-adjustable ones. I figure if you got the V2's you would adjust them exactly twice. When you got them installed you'd probably go a little aggressive. First, just because you got the adjustable ones you'd feel compelled to adjust them. Second, because of the Rick influence. After driving them for a few months you'd have them adjusted again and end up right in the middle where the V1's are at. Even if you did get to a track (either kind) a couple of times a year you wouldn't bother to adjust them for the rare occassion anyway. Right?
