They did the same thing in Oakdale California. Told everyone they were moving operations and everyone in the plant was laid off. So not only did all those long time loyal workers (not that loyalty means crap in this country any more) lose their jobs, the city used to have a Chocolate week full of fund raisers, food, activities for the kids etc,. so now what? Well they still claim to be the cowboy capital of the world and are mentioned by Chris Le Doux in his songs...

Wow. I grew up just outside of Hershey, PA. In fact, as a teenager I worked at the Hersheypark amusement park. That whole town is going to fold without the factories. There was some tourism, but even that was based on the chocolate company. I'm no CEO, but with a company that big 180 million just doesn't seem worth it, especially considering a few of the high tech manufacturing plants they've built on the outskirts of town within the last 10 years.

Before long there isn't going to be anyone left in the U.S. that can actually MAKE something. Once you skip a generation all those skills that craftsmen pass down to apprentices the last 200 years will be gone.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what will happen if mexico, india, and china suddenly tell us to go screw ourselves.

I feel your pain Scott....we here in Windsor are and soon to be 'were' the automotive capital of Canada (right across the river from Detroit/Motor City)...we started off with 3 full Chrysler assembly plants, 3 or 4 Ford plants and 2 GM plants. Sadly we're down to 1 Chrysler Minivan plant, 2 Ford plants, and 1 GM plant (scheduled to close)....

My mom worked for GM Trim for 28 years this June....with a 'grow-in' option for FULL retirement/pension, they received news the GM trim plant (now Lear but she's still under the GM Contract until 2009) is slated to close it's doors June 1st, 2007. She will be 60 HOURS short of full pension status. I tell ya, we're hoping the union/company can negotiate something. Others are losing their homes, moving out west, working anywhere they can because these plants have up and moved outside of North America....it's sad. But Globalization can't be stopped andthe manufacturing industry is dying in NA..I hear even Mexico is getting pissed that their jobs are moving to India now...ironic..

companies dont give a crap about their workers...especially the people up top...they care about 2 things...profit...and stock price...and if it means they have to throw your family on the street in the cold and burn hour house down while you watch to make their stock go up $0.03 a share...they will...

thats pretty much all you need to know about business...

Funnu you mention that.I am from Michigan and my father retired from Ford about 8 years ago.around 33 years with them..Did anyone know that Ford at one time made everying from tires, glass and even mined there own steel for parts in house per say??Sad but as we all know over time it was all out sourced.Funny someone made a comment o me on another forum about I might as well ban cars etc for the same reasons.
Well the difference is I dont need chocolate, but i do need a car..For one I always have and always will support americam made products when possible. As we all know thats very hard to do these days..Case in point.
Billet Tech.Know one here knows the troubles they have had due to the out sourcing of billet made goods to china.Just thought I would share that with you folks..
