Does anyone know if the Challenger LSD will work for other SRT8's? And if so, do you think it will be an available part by itself from Chrysler? The SRT engineers are having a chat session this Wednesday at Challenger forums but I figured I'd ask here before wasting time over there.

From a cost savings and manufacturing stand-point, it should be the same rear carrier as the LXs. The Challenger LSD is likely the Quaife that is available to us now. Mopar Performance carries it for the LXs. What I would like to know is what (if anything) they've done to beef up the half-shafts that are being used with the LSD. Don't forget that parts specific to the Challenger will likely be on restriction until their supplies are greater than the assembly line needs.

Excellent point and worth looking into once they've been out for a bit. Practically every challenger thats shipping comes throught he city here and I must have seen at least 100 since it's started on Haulaway trailers. They were all orange or black.

The '08s shipping right now do not have the LSD - right? This is going to be an '09 thing. I wonder if it will be optional or standard...and then what cost will be passed down to the window sticker for LSD-equipped cars.

Here is some more info on the 09 Challenger limited slip. It will be a whole new differential case. It should drop in to the current LX drive line.

    From the SRT Engineers chat:
    A Challenger question:
The 09 SRT will have a 6spd option. Is there a diff change or it the same diff that's in the charger? If it's the same will the 3.91 gears and carrier fit in the charger diff?

BTW I'm a die hard chevy guy and was waiting for the camaro, but you guys really got it right with the challenger. I'll be picking up a 6spd. vert when they come out.

    Thanks,
    jim

Jim, All of the 09 SRT's will get the new Challenger diff. The new diff is an heavy duty aluminum body limited slip with various ratios, 3.06 for the autonmatic, 3.91 for the manual transmission and a 3.73 ratio for the manual base car. The internal gear sets and carriers are interchangable for the new housing but not with prior differential models.

The 6 spd manual trans (based off the Viper manual) has internal improvements (triple cone synchros and more) coupled with the Sachs dual disc clutch is an awesome package.

What size if the new ring gear? Bigger than 8" I hope?

Previous was 215mm and for the 09MY it is a 226mm ring gear pitch diameter.

It transfers even power to both rear wheels. No more peg-leg burnouts and you get faster accelerating out of the corners. But your axles will be at higher risk of breaking.

That's what I'm planning as well. I'm just seeing if there are other options. But, as Adam mentioned earlier he thinks the Challenger LSD will be in fact the Quaife.

We might be able to get one started from the main supplier. The "lowest" I've seen them new is $1600. Someone else will hopefully chime in if they've seen it lower of has some suggestions.
