With all the hubbub about going "green" and all that, I thought it'd be fun to show off some examples of folks/companies attempting to be more environmentally-friendly, but in truth, failing miserably at it.

    Subaru
This company claims a "zero landfill use" production plant here in the US.
In their most recent ad, they show an adventurous owner on his outdoor exploits. At each location, someone writes on his dirty Subaru wagon's window.
The first one is "WASH ME", the second one is "PLEASE", and the third one is "NOW!".
The voice over says, "I just let the universe take care of that for me.", and shows the car being pseudo-washed in a rainstorm.

Proven many times over, a clean car runs more efficiently.
Leaving your car dirty for days/weeks/months detracts from your MPG and thus sends more nasties into the air.
    Oops.
    ------------------------------------------

    "Coil" light bulbs
I tried a set of these when they first came out. I removed them after about a week because I didn't have "time" for them. The bulbs take almost a full second to actually illuminate, then several more minutes for them to reach their full lumens output. Not really a big deal....unless they're lighting the staircase.

Home improvement stores now have entire walls dedicated to these 'green' coil-shaped bulbs that we're all supposed to use. Put aside the timing issue, and you've got much bigger problems:

    - The bulbs are made in (you guessed it) CHINA!!! The largest polluter on the planet! Bad news, earth-muffins: air doesn't just stay put over a specific country. It moves around. A lot. It's headed for your precious Starbuck's right now!

    - The bulbs contain f-ing MERCURY! While it was cool to mess around with the glob of mercury in science class in 8th grade, it's not cool when a bulb breaks and releases Mercury wherever!
So technically, whenever one of these 'save the earth' bulbs breaks, a HAZ-MAT team should be called in to take care of the spilled Mercury.
I'm sure small children will find "Hg" absolutely fascinating and will play with it for hours. Well, maybe minutes. Okay...probably just a few seconds.

So, when you're out saving the planet by purchasing one of the "coil" bulbs, realize that demand requires more production, more production requires more factories, more factories spew more crap into the air. Air quality regulations in China are like Jenna Haze's morals: non-existant.
The bonus of having Mercury readily my home makes me feel all warm and fuzzy (not due to exposure though).

    To be continued............

This "green" thing is a load. Burning 1 cord of wood is equivalent to driving a car a million miles. Who can we sue when California's (or any state's) wildfires rages out of control? It's all about the green alright, the green with the president's faces. Just recently 31,000 (yes that's thirty one thousand) members of the scientific community came out to say Al Gore's "science" sucks.

It's all about finding another way to pick our pockets, and inject some guilt along the way......
