Yep... trying to get a picture of a blue on in a pillar... might just have to jump on one of those. ...or maybe one of Jason's hood mounted GTO gauges....NOT!

How come no one has something fancy like a heads up display? Do they make aftermarket kits for heads up display gauges?

    S/C Question...Part II

For new S/C... Vortech specifically... is there a break in period, not punching it, keeping it under 100, etc for a while, or can I drive it like I stole it as soon as I pick it up? The engine is well broken in, but wasn't sure if the "new air" needed time to get used to it's new home being oil lubricated (like Jason). The tech at the Vortech company told me that changing the oil was pretty easy, especially with the new drain line so you don't have to remove the entire S/C. He also mentioned that the kit comes with three bottles of the oil. You should change it the first time after about 1500 miles and every 7000 after that. Keep the air filter cleaned as you would your standard CAI and everything should be GTG. Anything else we need to know about upkeep on these things?

I keep seeing some of these new "dash hawk" type looking monitors where you can pretty much display everything including the kitchen sink. I'll have to do some checking up on these things. You would think someone would have something like that.

DashDaq. In addition to the OBDII parameters it accepts a 0v-5v wideband input (more than one?). That would integrate your AFR.

Im looking at going with a setup from http://www.zeitronix.com/ HHP has them currently and from what I hear they love them. They come in blue and red. And I have been told that they are one of the highest sampling rates out there. Their support told me between 60 and 70 samples a second vs others at 10-15.

Drew, so did Vortech change to a "self contained" oiling system?? For the Mustangs (and others) they used to tap into the engine oil pan for lubrication, made for a real easy deal. If it's self contained I hope it's easy to drain cause it gets old after a while (changing the oil in the Paxton blower I have is a MAJOR PITA!!). The filter yea, just keep it clean like a regular one ... just make sure they mount it where you can get to it easily, again on my mustang the filter got put up in the fender and it's great for sucking in clean air but a PITA to clean!! As for break in period ... hell no for me, first thing I did was pull out of the garage and stomp on it, woot!!! Seriously tho, I'm not an expert on the newest units so take my info with a grain of salt and do whatever Vortech tells you. BTW, is ALL the EQ getting blowers??? Lucky bastards!!

Drive it like you stole it.

Invest in a K&N Filter cleaning kit for your CAI. Also, depending on where the Air Filter is located, you may want to rotate the filter 180* at 1500 miles (Clean filter every 3K miles).

Check your Belts every 1500 miles for frays around the edges. Sometimes the pulley's have burrs that can cause hell on the belts... Ensure the belts are at proper tention as well...

The best advise I could give you is take it easy out the driveway (of Vortech) until you learn the NEW FOUND power of the S/Cer...

Have fun, be safe, and purchase stock in Tire Company of your choice. lol

Yes the new V-3 Si trim is self contained. It has a drain hole to allow you to change the oil but no longer needs to be tapped into the system. The filter looks to be sitting right behind the drivers side headlight. This is the only thing that concerns me at this point. The filter looks tiny...

How big are the inlet and outlet John? Just curious. Wondering if you couldn't do a little modifying of the filter and it's placement.

My Mustang's been sitting for the most part the last few years as I've kinda gotten out of "that" world what with family now and the Maggie too so I've kinda lost touch, heck I didn't even know Paxton merged with Vortech and I've got a Paxton, lol!! They used to have an S trim and then a T trim and finally a V trim I believe but not sure now. And like I said they used to take their lubrication from the motor via the engine oil pan. They also used to have a blower that was "quieter" than the standard Vortech, it didn't make that s/c "whine" but I kinda liked that whine, everytime you hear it you KNOW the car is serious! Can't believe I lost touch with this stuff since I love it so much. I need to get some pix up too.

Unless you're worried about it getting dirty quicker it doesn't matter does it? If you're getting the boost, the filter is fine.

All this SC talk is getting me fired up more so than I already am!

*BTW: 4 San Diego folks are getting blowers at THIS point. 3 are EQ. Hopefully, Rick, Ralph, Adam will be next.

    Correct Dave.

Now, my filter sits right at the air inlet for the brakes which is quite a bit lower than the headlight. lol

So really, if the filter is that high up, there should be no worries. Not even during a good rain.
