    Everyone is giving good advice.

Training First. Small underpowered bike first . Once you get comfortable then move up. The motorcycle's power to weight ratio is phenomenol.

One recommendation is to never ride the bike at night. Most people driving don't pay attention and just don't see you. All of my almost accidents have been at night and I never drive at night anymore.

Steve,As I was reading this thread everything that came to mind Legmaker said it.I also have been riding a long time. One I will say is a crotch roket type bike is neat,Consider the driving position. If you are tall those are not the bikes for you,Especially if you ride any type of real distance..Your back will kill you.Take my word for it...If you do consider
a cruzer check out the yamaha road star.Very stable and confortable...Good luck on your choice..

yeah i would pass on night time riding as well hahaha...thats when its crusing time in the SRT

21.5 miles each way to work...on a one lane each way road....would be 90% of the driving on it...so a pretty good distance i guess....

teh ONLY reason i am eh about getting a cruiser is cause (and no offense to people who have them...this is just my opinion)...they look horrible haha...they just dont do anything for me...no matter how nice they may be....

would the training course have me do both?...see which one was easier?

Ditto what Chris has been saying. Having dated a number of guys with bikes/biker types.... you WILL put the bike down so don't go blowing a wad on a pretty bike that you'll thrash in a ditch/shrub. Also, after being used to running around in cages (what they call cars), you'll feel VERY exposed to the elements, road debris and idiot drivers. Having ridden across the Bay Bridge at night on the back of a Harley, I can attest you feel about two seconds from a smear.

On the upside, they get considerably better gas mileage if that's what you're really after. After all, the original Japanese cars were based around motorcycle engines which is why they tend to be lighter and more fuel efficient than domestics.

My first bike was a ninja 250, then I stepped up to a ninja 600R, then I stepped up to a ducati 916, now I have a ducati 1098. If you never have riden before I would suggest small and work your way up. Dont let your ego get in the way and think you have to get the biggest and badest bike like the 08 Busa ;)

oh no worries here big guy...i want the cheapest easiest bike to ride if i get one haha...if i want my ego to get big i go in the car as i said hahahaha

i would probably never upgrade bikes

they have never really been my thing....but seems to be good for gas so i though it would be worth at least thinking about haha

Goin for the crotch rocket eh buddy?? I didn't read all the posts but just wanted to say you gotta be carefull on one of these things, you gotta watch out for OTHER IDIOT drivers!!! Otherwise, they're fun as hell and their speed gets very, very addicting.
