Enjoyed hearing about your nitrous quests. I know you've been super concerned about spraying big, but spraying safe. Just wondering if you ever made it to the track.
Last I talked to John was mid afternoon Saturday and he was somewhat discouraged by the HP/TQ output from the dyno so he was not really sure if he was going to go.
Little update: I just got off the phone with John. He was at the dyno for a long time this weekend but just couldnt get the jeep dialed in right. He started out with a 175 shot and made 537hp and then jumped up to a 250 shot on the progressive controller and made 550hp so he adjusted the controller to come in with more % earlier and still made 550 regardless of changes. He was running straight C-16 gas but was still showing ~8 degrees KR. He backed the timing all the way back to 16 degrees but nothing was helping. He could not get his AF ratio above 10:1 even with the predator fully leaned out. The end results were ~550rwhp and 670tq. We believe that he is experiencing something to do with the 5250 rpm wall that all the other high horsepower builds have seen lately. He is gonna get with Dave and try to straighten it out then he'll be back in action.
btw, I saw you called me the other night but I had a little too much to drink and was feeling :hypno:
Patrick, I just sent you a PM. As stated by Chris, I had a horrible time on the dyno and the 8.5 degrees KR scares the crap outta me. I was tried everything I could but wasnt able to make more than 550RWHP. I leaned the fuel max allowed(10% I believe) via predator and couldnt get the a/f ratio above 10.0:1. I pulled the max amount of timing via predator (10 degrees) and couldnt get rid of spark knock. I know I had good fuel, I drove 10 miles after the fuel light came on and then put straight C16. My predator showed I was only running like 6 degrees after it pulled the 8.5 degrees. I had brand new NGK plugs at the beginning of the day and pulled them but saw no evidence of detonation. I really suspect that harmonics or something else is sending a false signal. This problem started ever since I added the Long tubes, on the #62 N20 Jet#29 Fuel Jet I will sometimes see no KR and sometimes see 8 degrees KR. This is on same road with same fuel and same engine and air temps(I say same but they really vary 2-5 degrees). I was on Vacation from May 9th until yesterday and frankly after the dyno session I just decided to enjoy the 100 degree plus heat indexes we had before heading back to Montana. J
Take you time John. The power will come soon enough. But then again, 550 is nothing to sneeze at. lol Hope you had a great vacation.
Damn straight Chuck and that is one of my biggest pevs. The reason I go to the dyno is only to verify a/f ratios, I dont have a wide band because Im not a fan of all the gauges. I did however see that innovative makes a portable that does datalog, I will order it later. Ron, it was nice, I got lots of rest and did alot around the house. I was actually only off 8 days but did work local the other 8, anytime Im in my own bed at night and not a hotel is a vacation to me.
I think its more false knock than anything. It seems like everyone with headers experiences more KR than with stock manifolds. You may need to have Dave revise the tune and reduce your knock sensitivity a little. See what his thoughts are. However, I agree that 550rw is huge from a basically stock 6.1 with headers and spray. Thats low 11s power all day long.
That is the BEST statement one could ever say. lol I too, travel for work. haha I have been on a travel free vacation for the past two weeks and it has been nice. The sad thing is I start back up next week. UGH!!! Glad it was relaxing for you.
