Can anyone post up on how to remove fuel at WOT on my current tune? I left PPP at 12.5 A/F and am now at 10.5 at this altitude. I need to remove some fuel only at WOT. Also, my idle is a little high at 900 RPM. I want to lessen that. When I put my car in gear, the idle goes UP every time to 1050 or so...weird. What causes that? It's been a year since I loaded my last tune but I can get around ok once I hook up. Thanks!
I'm sure Quick will jump in shortly...but, you should be able to go into the tune and "modify tune". From there it is as easy as entering the "fuel" setting and moving the cursor to the right towards "lean". The idle is the same process.
Just like Rick said, go into the tables and lean it out in the RPM band that sh'e fat in. But your gonna find you will not be able to lower your idle very much. That PPP combo needs the high idle to stay running, it doesn't make enough vacuum at lower levels.
The idle adjustments in the Predator are in 50rpm increments. Knock it down 50rpms and see how she idles...if its ok then you could try another 50 and go from there. My best guess is that your not going to get it to idle to well below 800rpms with the 426.
Cam, we went with a very small camshaft because of my altitude. That's why it was surprising how much torque I made over quite a long RPM band. "Less is better" lol, I remember that from quite a few engine building books. I don't want to mess with anything in the tune except WOT...and that seems fixed. Am I right that the car will eventually learn at partial throttle where to be? Why does my car jump 200 RPM when I put it in gear? It is actually hard to coast to a stop sign...the car wants to idle through it.
Jon...I'm not sure about that. A CMR tune MAY be the only way to adjust WOT ONLY. Sorry I can't be of more help! - Rick
Its the tune/idle setting. The Predator hand held allows different idle settings be it in Park.....Neutral......Drive......with and without A/C, etc.
I think a good part of that is because you're running the HHP 426 cam. I believe you did change out the cam for the HHP correct.
YES it is. The cam, for as "large" as it is......it idles like stock. You dont hear the rump at idle like the 268. I solved alot of problems by placing a bead of red silicone around the throttle body and at the gasket point at the manifold. On the "passenger side" of the point where the throttle body meets the manifold is a horizontal opening. I sealed that.......and pretty muched used the silicone at any point I thought it could have a slight air leak. It worked and my rough idle and surge went away. I almost cancelled installing the HHP 426 cam after all the surging stopped.
The best way to have a cam pronounced is have that low idle to hear the lump...700-800 is the best if you ask me....go as low as you can!
Jon- I heard everything went very well with your setup. How did the drive home go? I heard you had a small "run in" with some wildlife? Hopefully all is okay bro..... How is that 90mmTB treatin ya? Anxious to hear some details. PM me if you want...... Chase
The Predator adjusts the fuel at WOT only. This is the (power enhancement table) fuel added in WOT open loop mode. The car should take care of itself in closed loop modes -- within a range. Short term adaptives can correct 25%. Long term adaptives can correct another 25%. Long term adaptives are persistent over key cycles and short term adaptives are not. So if it needs to correct more than 25% (and less than 50%) it may run rich for a while on startup but this is highly unlikely. You should be fine. The car should have already taken care of the closed loop fuel (cruising around). I'm guessing you'll need to lean out the WOT by maybe 15%? But I'd do it a bit at a time. Like lean it out 5% first shot and then see where you're at and go from there. Besides, if you run around rich it won't hurt anything right away and you'll just have a little black smoke and sooty tips. People will pay attention because they'll think you just haven't fired the nitrous yet.
Thanks Quick...exactly what I was wondering. My father-in-law commented that I had dark exhaust shoot out when I goosed it...that was after I had been back less than a couple of miles or so...almost zero cruising around. I have an Innovate so WOT adjustments won't be a problem..I just wanted to make sure that's all I was adjusting. Is this indeed in the "modify tune" area? I will go have a look. It looks like the idle has a few places to adjust for...I'll see what I can do here also. Thanks guys!
Jon, as we discussed earlier, please do not adjust anything till we are on the phone. I will call you today and walk you through it, what time is good?
Hehe...already done. I selected the tune, modify, drilled down to WOT fuel, went lean 7% (for now) across the three RPM bands, escaped out to "reinstall tune", followed the instructions, and was done. I also lowered the park idle 50rpm and in gear idle 150rpm. When I put the thing in gear before it jumped 200 rpm! Ill call you later dude...going for my estimate now. I may be interested in the GRIP body kit you have there if I can swing it with State Farm Insurance. Update...I am at 11.5% lean from the original tune...that is putting me around 12.0-12.2 A/F ratio at WOT. If you want to make power, don't live at 7000 feet altitude.
