I dropped my baby off at Pomoco Chrysler Jeep of Hampton (VA) this morning. I'm so nervous. So here is the story. First. I gave them ALL my vehicle info. (they knew it was an srt) when I told them about my tranfercase shutter and clunking the service writer said. "it does that on slippery surfaces right?" I said "no, it does it on dry payment pretty much all the time." he says. "OH, You are not supposed to have it in 4X4 when on dry pavement!" I commenced to inform HIM on how the GCSRT8 T/C works and he still treated me like an idoit! He was very dismissive and short. Then he said "we work on GCSRTs all time time," and gave me a look like "you done?" I'm very conserned. He said $100 to change the fuid in the TC. that sounds good considering the price of the fluid. What to ya'll think? normaly I would have just said f-it and walked out, but I'm in VA and I'm driving to TX later this week and I don't want any issues.
Common problem regarding dealers and SRT jeeps. I would find a good tech at a dealership and become his new friend.
that is an excellent idea, but: I spent January and Feb. in MN, March and april in CT, and now I'm in VA, I'll be home (TX) for a few weeks, then FL for about a month, Then back to toher states and so on. Plus I live like 2hrs away from a SRT cert. tech. in TX. This is the ONLY thing that I don't like about my SRT.
Skye is the Tech SRT Cert if not I bet he either under or over fills it, you should have printed out the specs from wkjeep.com and took it with you as it is not the same as a reg Grand Cherokee and I'm surprised they even have the fluid in stock better check all this before they start
I just got off the phone with them... Image that...they didn't notice anything. "everything is normal" IDIOTS
I bet the fluid that came out was NASTY I bet you notice a difference the majority inlcuding myself did after having this done.
Changing the fluid may very well solve your problem, and the fluid is over $30./qt. (need almost two quarts). Just make damm sure they use the correct fluid (its unique to the SRT8, and only sold by Mopar (Castrol BOT89 M1 Plus)), and that they fill it properly (1 inch below the bottom of the fill hole). Would this be a warranty issue, by chance? O/W, your dealer sounds just as well informed as mine. I've given up using mine, and just do my own work.
Hey skye, i had the same issue, they told me basically it was normal and that i'm not supposed to drive with the trac off on dry pavement...gues what when i had my 07 they never said that obviously recently chrysler has been telling dealers we arent supposed to drive with the tc off unless its in snow conditions...I call this a way to try to push tc failure past the warranty expiration. I bet the traction controll off puts more stress on the tcase. Its a way to bypass the problem to them..I changed my tcase fluid and told them dealer to put it in a bottle...looks like black sh*t....if my case goes out atleast i have proof why,.
Yeah my dealer has done the" there is nothing wrong" thing to me . But not the day it came in on a rollback with the half shaft sitting on the ground
I would find a new dealer. Legmaker hooked me up with a great dealer and tech in my town. I am sure someone on the forum must know of a good dealer in your area.
When I went to pick it up they told me to come back tomorrow and they will try a new TSB for SRT8 TC bump sound that they found only after the jeep being there ALL DAY. Oh, and they wouldn't change the fluid...they said it wasn't recommended till 30k. He swore up and down that it isn't caused by the fluid and I was running late and didn't have time to argue.
