As you may or may not know, my 300 is my daily driver. I'm getting it dyno tuned in a few months when I get back. I was also wondering, would I be able to get a tune for fuel economy? What type of mpg's do you think I could squeeze out of it with my current setup? Would I be able to run a tune to use 87 octane? Sorry making this thread about cars guys. Chyut.

Our engines are NOT designed to run 87 octane.

I think you could get an "economy" tune. ...and maybe get a couple of mpg better but still on 91 octane gas. Lean it out and pull timing accordingly, set all your shift points really low (as soon as we get the TCM programming), and sort of bog your way around town. For a couple of mpg you wouldn't be happy.

Alternative #2: KEEP YOUR FRIGGIN FOOT OUT OF IT!

I say you buy a 1000 dollar beater, fix it up some and drive that for fuel economy. You'd be surprised what you can find for cheap and still look acceptable on the road. Auctions are a good place to buy a used vehicle if you do some research before hand. Keep the beast running the way it was meant to run. Hard and fast. Screw the fuel economy tune idea...it will never be good on gas lol...If you get something that's decent on fuel with no collision ins. etc, you'll probably still save over the long run and have a nice winter beater for the snow as well. Something to think about.

The two words 'Gas Mileage' and 'SRT8' don't go hand-n-hand and never will. You might get somebody to tone down a tune for ya, but its not going to much for ya at the pump. Hell, you've got the stage II package to boot...lol. Buy a cheap 4banger and make it your DD.

Murphy's Law! Isn't that ALWAYS the case tho, lol, it's crazy how many times that happens to me ... got the kids in the car, way late, car loaded up with crap, driving my OTHER car, out of gas, flat tire, whatever, it always happens at the wrong time!! Doh!

Markus, I'd suggest you just get a cheap beater (that gets good mileage of course) for your daily driver, or at least to trade off on a couple days a week, that's what I do.

Get AAA. Then call them for a tow anytime you need to get somewhere.

    Cheaper than buying gas.

Pre-Predator, but with a B&G Stage II flashed PCM (remember those....lol....now a $750.00 dust bucket in the garage) I averaged 20mpg on the freeway form CA to AZ. Plus I was averaging close to 90+ most of the time. I easily got around 18mpg in town.

i was thinking the same sorta thing...only with 89 octane...

you could always try putting 87 in there and just buying some octane boost! hahaha...

god would that even work? lol

The car with Markus's current setup pushes more air and needs more fuel to operate reliably. That's all he needs is a giant 300 SRT8 skeleton to hold a 500lb paperweight motor with his 800 dollar B&G. A tune will do little to make his car fuel efficient. You need to buy a cheap beater and trust me, it doesn't have to be a minivan lol...I could see you in a Jeep with an inline 6 and then you put some manual labor into it yourself to make it look respectable. You have a ton of possibilities but it'll take some research. The more you put into it yourself (go and buy a car body repair manual), the better off you'll be. You'll save gas and have a beater for when you just feel like spitting on the floor haha. Srsly man. The other option is to get another job and you very well know gay bar dancing is your ticket.

Wait a minute! I got it! Superchargers will boost your mpg a good bit (all the time) if you keep your foot out of it. Just slap a SC on there and you could save a lot on gas.
