Have the boys at DiabloSport come to any conclusion on the effect that an upto 10% Ethanol mix may have on high Octane fuel and canned tunes? I saw KR while hooked up to a dyno and an A/F meter when running the 93 CAI tune on Sunoco 94 here which I use exclusively. The only real gas stations that do not offer a high octane ethanol-blend is Shell and they top out at 91 in this area. I've heard negative things about Shell. We resolved the KR issues (mostly like aided by running a tad lean with my addition of high flow catalytic converters) by adding fuel in each range by upto 8%, 5% and 5%. Just wondering if you could shed any light on the issue since I've been out of the loop on this for the whole winter.
Don't know but this is sort of related... I'm a bit disappointed. It's looking like with our gas here in CA, in order to eliminate all KnR I'm going to be running about 16* - 17* advance with about a 12.0:1 a/f. I was kind of hoping to be more up towards 18* to 21* timing.
Yeah, the blended fuel will run a bit leaner, so adding fuel will generally correct for KR with the E10. Blended 91 will be even more prone to KR. Thanks Mike
I don't know... who knows what the eco-nazis have forced into the fuel this month? They have crap to put in there for the summer and different crap they force in there for the "winter". I'm now using Arco fuel (subsidary of BP). They don't actually say it's BP gas but they do say it is inspected by BP to BP specs, whatever that means. I guess it's local refineries with the BP additive package mixed in when they fill the truck. Supposedly they use sort of (x)anol (methanol?) that is supposed to actually help with knock. I think that means it's better than the other additive with respect to knock but probably worse than no additive. I'll go read the website again.
Thanks Mike. So, in general, would it be better to add fuel rather than pull timing?. What I did was keep adding fuel until I got down to around 12.0:1 a/f and then started pulling timing until the knock disappeared. I didn't think I wanted to go much richer than 12.0:1? that sort of right?
No shiat huh?!?! They're ALWAYS putting some crap in our gas whether it's good for the enviro or not. Remember the last fiasco with that cancer causing additive (can't remember the name) that everyone made such a fuss about a few years back?? I think it's all out of our gas now but I could be wrong. Who knows what the eco-nazis are pushing for now. It's like we're the guinea pigs ... try it in Cali first, if it works great then we'll push it on the rest of the country, if not, if it wrecks their cars and gives em all cancer then we'll try something else!! Morons. :mad2:
