A friend of mine who is a mechanic has told me a few times I should install a trans cooler more than once. He has also mentioned I should do a transmission fluid change doing the "complete process". He mentioned the name of the complete process, but I can't remember what he called it. I have 39k miles on my car. What is everyone else recommending/doing for their cars?

rick - a couple of the guys in my club had their trans fluid changed over to a merc benz fluid run in the amg supposedly. they say it made a huge difference in the shift firmness, crispness, and smoothness. i have not driven their cars after the change, but the swear by it!!

I think a cooler makes alot of sense especially if you take your car to the road course, I plan on eventually doing a Trans cooler and Power Steering cooler.

i have also seen oil coolers that bolt on between the filter and the block..... a couple of lines to a remote cooler. pretty simple and the guys i talked to say it made a big difference on the actual oil temps!

Good stuff guys...I'm curious why no one has done a trans cooler yet! Is a trans cooler a generic part that can bolt on or does it need to be built specifically for our cars?

the PS Cooler is Equally important on the track, due to the setup of our Brake/Power Steering system if you overheat the PS you not only loose that but also the power brakes too..not a fun feeling if you are going 100+ MPH!

During our run today (Drew, Rick, Jeff and I), Drew's oil temps were 240-260!

    You rang?

A lot of people HAVE started adding auxiliary trans coolers. That thread from Matt Roberson is THE authority on trans coolers IMO. But read the whole thread. The advice changes midway through.

I just added a Derale 16 pass trans cooler with fan. You run from the trans to the aux cooler, then from the aux cooler to the factory cooler, and from the factory cooler back to the trans.
