Here are the final results comparing the Volant CAI filter box assembly to a popular tube with filter and factory configuration. The Volant tube dimensions are quite large 4-1/2" at the filter end and taper down smoothly to 3-1/2", slightly larger than the factory LX intake dimensions. As reference, the factory Jeep CAI and all others:novote:, except for the Mopar and AFE CAI are a wimpy 3-1/2" Although there is some fitment issue the design is obvious. A large filter and intake area tapering for velocity, fabricated from injected mold plastic to resist heat and taking advantage of the grille and lower opening as ram air inducing pressurization in the box. I was surprised that the B&G Stage 2 with a less aggressive NOS tune made such a difference. Previous B&G Stage 2 had a max off 22 degrees advance while the NOS version has 17 degress. So here are the results, 1. blue run-Volant and stock ECU 2. red run -Volant and B&G ECU 3. green run-B Woody stock ECU 4. purple run - modified factory box with drop in K&N The tests were conducted on a newer AWD dyno, 4th gear 2008 Jeep with Corsa catback and 180 thermostat as the only mods.
Nice results Steve and i see the volant looks like 10 hp over stock box. Did you use Scotts dyno? With my retirement budget (lol) im going to stay stock because the wife said please dont make this a habit or you be down there every week lol. She said once a month is ok yuppie.
Awesome! I told you Volant was where it's at! I wonder if anyone would be interested in a Volant 'Group Buy'?
