Surprisingly too. I thought these things were supposed to be fast??? This was the 2nd time I've come across one but the 1st real time I've run one (other was on the hwy with too much traffic). Wasn't sure exactly what would happen (heard both sides) and was pleasantly surprised ... just walked away from him, didn't even sweat. On Fridays I go to a different office out in Cupertino in the am so I head out some back roads to De Anza blvd. out near Saratoga. Basically guys some nice, long, uncongested roads ... until I get into Cupertino. Along the way heading down Cox (a long one lane road) I notice up ahead a nice, clean blue GTO. Lowered, tinted windows, very nice. As I get closer I can hear his exhaust too. Ok, please god, let me have this one! I get up behind him but there's one car in front holding us up. Finally that idiot turns off and the GTO guns it. Ok, he wants to play! I do too but he immediately slows. Fine. We come to the end of the road and I'm praying this guy is gonna turn right onto De Anza Blvd. (it's wide 2 lanes and not congested at that point). He does. AND the light is green for us. PERFECT!! I'm on it, right up to his bumper, autostick down a gear and hit it turning right around the corner. He did too but it didn't matter. He stayed in the right lane and I powered through the corner and into the left lane and just went right by him! (got up to about 70 before slowing) His windows were tinted but I could see him looking at me as I went by, priceless. But it gets better. So I'm all jazzed I walked this guy so bad but still I'm gonna give him the thumbs up so I slow, move over and let him catch up. He won't. Finally he HAS TO because of traffic and he comes up next to me. I roll down the window ready to give him the thumbs up (I'm not a jerk) and he won't look. I even hit the horn. Nothing, he just stares straight ahead. PRICELESS!! I start laughing and am still very happy this am, what a way to start the day ... with a GTO kill. So I thought these things were fast (I know this guy did stuff to his too cause it was loud and it was lowered)?? Either they're not or my maggie is quicker than I think. :grin:

Totally! I think he was just really embarassed but still, when I've lost races in the past in my mustang I always pull up and shoot the shiat with the guy ... "whata ya got in there?" "what mods you go?" ... stuff like that. I think he was just totally embarrassed to lose so badly. As I found out. 6.1 liters of Hemi power baby, woot!! Thanx Curtis! I think cause I expected a closer race is why it's so enjoyable, I really didn't think I'd walk him like that. AND I know he was trying, I saw and heard him downshift and get on it going around the corner. More mods means they need more things modded where we don't, lol! Yea, I like having my way with guys!! very cool scotty!!!! now, when my buddy/co-worker, ed (scootz) chimes in he will surely have some gto defense!!!! hahahahaaha reminds me of the time i took a goat from a 60 mph roll...... i hear him shift, and i hit it...... next thing i know i am looking at him waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay behind me in seconds!!! we get to a toll booth about a mile or so down the road and he pulls up next to me. i see the passenger laughing his ass off and the driver looking a bit pissed. windows were down so i ask, what happen..... passenger stops laughing and said the kid missed third on his down shift!!! hahahahahaha

At the end of Cox you turn right onto De Anza and get a good run up to the train tracks before the next light, that's where it was, nice little open 2 lane uncongested spot. You ever see a really nice blue GTO around there?? If so don't worry, lol! Geez you're supposedly faster than me and I walked this guy, you'd really have your way with him! Bet he thinks twice bout messin with an SRT8 again. You know I'd like to think that was the case but it wasn't, he had no probs going ... I just went faster! The more I think about it the more amazing it is to me what actually happened. I mean he was in front quite a ways up and I had to reel him in and blow by him. Wouldn't think I could have done that to a GTO. Bimmer or 350Z or some other ricer sure, but not a GTO, I know they're supposed to be a pretty good match for us. All I know is this guy wasn't and I gave him a nice ... :bottom:!
funny, because it really comes down to a driver a lot of the times...... i have had m version z4 bimmers give me a run, and i was caught in the wrong gear, not paying attention, and really had to work to reel him in..... these days, with cars within a second or so in performance, driver ability plays a BIG part!!! either way, you kicked this guys azz and flexed a little SRT muscle!!! woo-hoo!!!!
Oh yea, muscle baby! Only he's got 6 liters so it's not much more, lol! Thinking about it I believe a couple things happened in my favor, call it luck maybe. One, the car was at PERFECT operating temperature, and I mean PERFECT, no heat soak here. I hadn't been on the road 10 minutes so the car had JUST come up to op temp, plus it was bout 45* out this am and that just made the car feel like it was rarin to go! You know that feeling you get from your car sometimes?? Like you just KNOW it's real fast at that moment, like everything's just right. That was the case. 2nd, speed was perfect to gun it too, not too fast, not too slow, just right. Limit on the one-laner leading up to the turn is 35 and I was slowing from there cause the light was red. He was maybe 5 cars in front at that point cause I'd slowed. When I saw the light turn green (thank you God) I autosticked down to first and hit it just before the corner. I accelerated coming out of the tight right corner in first gear and it just pulled like a banshee out of hell from there!!! No tire spin, no slip, just go! And he didn't bobble either. He didn't spin or miss a shift, nothing, he just got walked, plain and simple. So those 2 things I think helped but hey, that's racin. That's the way the GTO crumbles, hahahahhaha!
Scott, congrats! Awesome story and well told! Just be careful the next time you see him and he WANTS to race! - he likely installed a blower or something!
I was just thinkin that, lol! Might have to get me an I-charger or some juice for the future just in case ... especially if I start seeing this Roush stage 3 stang around now all the time. Don't like that, don't like that at all. This is my turf, this is SRT turf!!
Thanx monkey... uh, brudda!! You know I really don't run much and have only had a few what I'd call "races" so when I do have one it's kinda a big deal for me. Sorry, I know some of you out there do this all the time but I don't so I'm sorry I seemed a little "over" excited. I will say I have yet to lose though, woot! Love this car!!!!! :towel:
