New dealer requirement to document customer vehicle mods during warranty visits...
Per a recently released Warranty Bulletin (#D-03-08), vehicles brought in to dealership service department for warranty work must now be inspected for any signs of aftermarket “performance relatedâ€￾ vehicle modifications, and any modifications found must be noted on the customers service history report.

This means that even if you decide to use a different dealer, they will have access to the information since it will be in your factory VIN report/Service History file!!!!

I have a feeling that this is not going to go over well with vehicle owners, and will result in an increase in warranty chargebacks, but that's the intent, the number of warranty claims for problems relating to issues that are not the fault of the manufacturer have skyrocketed during the past 18-24 months.

More details will be forthcoming next month via an expanded bulletin (D-03-08A), but here is an example of a section covering thermostats:

Thermostat Performance for 5.7L / 6.1L Hemi Engines
Recent studies by Engineering have shown a drastic increase in thermostat replacements for the 5.7L and 6.1L Hemi engines. These thermostats have been replaced based on diagnostic procedures done for thermostat performance and rationality fault codes (P0116, P0128, P1281, or P2181). Quality Engineering Group analysis of returned thermostats has shown that in many cases the root cause of the fault codes has been aftermarket thermostats (180 degree), which have been installed by the vehicle owner in search of performance gains. Before replacing a thermostat, we ask that you thoroughly inspect it to be sure that it’s not an aftermarket part.

This has been going on for a year or so. Nothing new. Looks like they are just wanting to keep the fraudulent claims down to a minimum.

As for Chrysler watching the forums...

...yes, they have been doing that since forums were created. Some execs are even registered members.

    I want names, damnit!

Oh, forgot to say this: what's really new about this?!?! Its just that now we have this in written form... you'd be foolish to think that the stealerships weren't already looking to save $$$ by finding fault in their customer's claims.
Don't you give Ryan a stinky finger already?!?!

Actually it is a great way for Chrysler to reduce the amount of fraud that goes through the Service Departments.

Maybe if they are successful, then other items that are retailed might come down.

Just like fraudulent Insurance claims, Uninsured Motorists, theifs, blah blah blah are the cause for many retail price increases.

    Food for thought...

LOL - there's threads of people complaining the dealership replaced their 180 degree thermostat without them knowing.

I've also heard through the grapevine the the SRT engineers are aware of my car in particular (and many others I'm sure) and are surprised themselves that the engine hasn't gone away yet.

Oh they're definitely watching! Spoke with my dealer a few months ago and he told me a story of a local SRT4 owner who brought his car in for a warranty for a blown motor. Home office refused the claim and the young owner turned around and brought his father back to dispute the claim...

The service manager then showed the owner's father the video on YouTube taken the day he blew up his motor at the track...

    This is not good.

Basically, correct me if i am wrong, every person who modifies there Dodge, Chrysler,Jeep vehicle and brags(ie puts info on forum) should remove their info or it could be used against you.

    This sounds like Big Brother.

There is always been a fine line even Mopar sells performance parts look at all the stages for the SRT4 and all the performance parts for the Hemi engine so It has always been a question of what did what and who is responsible if anything JMATT we are more or less guinea pigs for future SRT vehicles you dont think we give them ideas!!!

No - this just means people shouldn't try to commit warranty fraud.

If my motor blows up, I guarantee I'm not claiming warranty, regardless of how many miles were on my car. Same for my transmission. Now, if I was still under warranty and my power steering went out, or my uconnect quit, nav quit, etc. then I would file a warranty claim.

This kind of behavior isn't to screw the consumer, it's to prevent the consumer from trying to screw the company.

My car is at the dealer right now for ABS Module replacement and my A/C controller light is out...replaced under warranty.

Now if I come in with a blown trans I won't even bring up warranty..but my A/C control light they will replace for me.

Ok, not a joke. So what about all the MOPAR parts they're more than happy to sell you and install for you and not say one word about?!?!? They SAY they won't void your warranty, they're very specific about it as I've asked over and over again (since I got the extended warranty). Hmmmm, don't like this at all. Guess it helps to keep on good terms with your dealer.
