Check this out! Group 5 is buidling an aftermarket upgrade to the new Challenger. See this months Mopar Collectors Guide or see g5challenger.com I am involved in the marketing team for this project. I will keep the forum up to date.:yahoo:
Hmmm. Pretty cool...but I'm not diggin the front air damn on the G5-R. It reminds me of the old cow-pushing things on train engines. Too much imo.
Carroll Shelby was on the team that started the Viper Carroll Shelby was on the team that started SRT Carroll Shelby signature on my Charger Quote from the SRT Division: "The genesis of the whole idea of what we did with the SRT products started in Southern California. At the time there was a group of us performance car guys working for a fellow named Carroll Shelby. Team Shelby was an really interesting makeup of engineers and mechanics through out the corporation, and their job was to absolutely get the last bit of performance and power out of a race vehicle. A number of those people are still with the current SRT platform. That energy, that know how has really carried forth" Time Line October 1982 - Carroll Shelby contracts with Chrysler to produce high performance vehicles based on DODGE products. November 1982 - Prototype Dodge Shelby CHARGERS are built and displayed. 1987 - Shelby envisions and begins prototype work on a DODGE sports car which later becomes the "VIPER." 1989 - Shelby builds the first VIPER chassis prototype. January 1989 - The VIPER is first shown at the Detroit Automobile Show. Shelby is there. May 1991 - Carroll Shelby paces the Indy 500 in a Dodge VIPER. 1995 - Limited Edition Shelby VIPER. 1997 - Carroll Shelby Street Competition Viper Coupe. There is Shelby Dodge Club
this is awsome, the new challenger is so badass..........i can't wait to see what the shelby team does with it...........
I realize all of that, although Shelby and Dodge still just seems really odd to me ...I know he jumped ship from Ford briefly...but how does this new Challenger have anything to do with Shelby now? He wasnt involved w/ the original Challenger since he was working w/ Ford then and isn't involved w this one since he is working w/ Ford now? I couldn't find any mention of Shelby anywhere on that website, so that is why I was asking, plus I don't think Ford would probably let that happen anyway lol.
Ok guys my mistake - Shelby has NOTHING to do with this project. I was just making a comparison. Group 5 Limited will be building these vehicles, it will be a special order from selected dealers (just like a Shelby Mustang.) Dealer list coming soon!
No you are not missing the Shelby connection, because their is none. It was a comparison. Shelby does Mustangs. Group 5 Limited will do the Challenger. See www.g5challenger.com
